Hypothesis

A secondary demo CTA offers both paths, but may shift some trial sign-ups into a longer sales process. Evaluate the added option by total qualified opportunities across both paths.

How to run this test

Primary metric

Qualified opportunity rate

Count deduplicated qualified opportunities per assigned visitor using the same qualification rule and sales follow-up period.

Other metrics

  • Free signup rateMeasure whether the demo option reduces self-serve signups among assigned visitors.
  • Valid demo request rateCount submitted, valid demo requests rather than clicks alone.
  • Opportunity close rateCompare opportunities won after the same sales follow-up period.
  • Hero total action rateCount visitors who complete a free signup or demo request, deduplicating those who do both.

What to check before and during the test

  • Second pathAdd one clearly secondary “Request a demo” link beside the existing free-start CTA.
  • Action mixRead each path's volume alongside total qualified opportunities.
  • HierarchyKeep free signup primary and use one fixed location for the demo option.
  • CopyKeep both labels unchanged; “Talk to sales” would be a separate copy test.
  • AudienceReview small-team and enterprise traffic separately.

Setup mistakes to avoid

  1. 1Do not give the two CTAs equal visual weight; one must remain primary.
  2. 2Do not use the demo option to delay users who are ready for self-serve signup.
  3. 3Do not change the hero headline at the same time.
  4. 4Avoid crowding two buttons together on mobile.
  5. 5Keep demo response times consistent during the test.
