Hypothesis

An optional invitation can offer that step without making an account a condition of checkout. Creating an account is not consent to marketing, and the invitation must not imply that the order is unfinished.

How to run this test

Primary metric

Account creation rate

Compare account creation among all assigned guest buyers after the order is complete.

Other metrics

  • Repeat purchase rateCompare all assigned guest buyers over the same predefined 30-, 60- or 90-day window, not only those who create an account.
  • Email verification completionReport verification among account starters and completed accounts per assigned guest buyer.
  • Account-invitation support requestsTrack questions about order or account status using the same denominator.

What to check before and during the test

  • InvitationAdd one fixed, optional account invitation after guest checkout.
  • PrefillDecide which previously supplied details can be used and keep the rule consistent.
  • DeclineAfter dismissal, preserve access to the order and future guest checkout.
  • PlacementUse one fixed location that does not cover the order summary.
  • Purchase historyReview first-time and repeat guest buyers separately.

Setup mistakes to avoid

  1. 1Do not require account creation to view the order confirmation.
  2. 2Do not change invitation wording and prefill behavior together.
  3. 3Do not ask again in the same session after a visitor declines.
  4. 4Do not make guest checkout more difficult as part of this test.
  5. 5Do not prefill information the visitor did not provide.
