Hypothesis

An accurate one-time-payment disclosure may remove that uncertainty. Keep the terms unchanged and check whether the wording affects repeat purchases or later subscription uptake.

How to run this test

Primary metric

Revenue per visitor (RPV)

Compare revenue to see whether clarifying payment terms changes results.

Other metrics

  • Payment-step completion rateCheck whether more visitors complete payment.
  • Repeat purchase rateMake sure repeat purchases do not fall over the follow-up period.
  • Subscription conversion rateIf subscriptions are sold, check that subscription conversion does not fall materially.
  • Returns or disputesTrack payment-expectation returns and disputes relative to purchases.

What to check before and during the test

  • WordingAdd “One-time payment. No automatic renewal.” next to the price.
  • PlacementKeep the placement fixed; below the payment button is a separate test.
  • CopyUse one accurate statement throughout; alternative wording is a separate comparison.
  • Later behaviorWhere relevant, track repeat purchase and subscription conversion.
  • Customer historyReview new visitors and previous buyers separately.

Setup mistakes to avoid

  1. 1Do not say “one-time payment” when charges recur.
  2. 2Do not change wording and price together.
  3. 3Do not use the statement as a substitute for payment terms; keep those terms available.
  4. 4Do not call a short-term conversion lift a win without checking repeat purchases.
  5. 5Check legal review before publishing this wording in markets that regulate subscription cancellation.
