Thank You

Refer-a-Friend Offer on the Thank You Page A/B Test

The thank-you page provides a place to invite a buyer to refer a friend, but a completed order does not prove peak satisfaction.

Hypothesis

A relevant referral offer may prompt sharing while competing with order details. Test one defined referral offer and track activity beyond clicks on the share button.

How to run this test

Primary metric

Referral sharing action rate

Measure an explicit share or link-copy action per eligible assigned buyer; opening a share menu does not prove the invitation was sent.

Other metrics

  • Purchase rate from referral linksMeasure completed orders from eligible visitors arriving through shared referral links over the same follow-up window.
  • Referral link useTrack link-copy or share actions among assigned buyers; actual delivery may not be observable.
  • Reward redemption rateCompare rewards used among eligible recipients over the same follow-up period.
  • Order confirmation clarityIf surveyed, use the same short question and sampling method in both arms to check that order details remain clear.

What to check before and during the test

  • OfferAdd one predefined referral invitation and keep any incentive terms fixed.
  • Sharing controlsKeep the available channels and their order the same.
  • TimingUse one fixed post-purchase display trigger.
  • PresentationUse one dismissible card format.
  • DeviceVerify the selected sharing behavior on each device before launch.

Setup mistakes to avoid

  1. 1Do not advertise a reward unless it is available and its terms are clear.
  2. 2Do not change incentive type and channel order together.
  3. 3Keep the invitation dismissible and order information accessible without it.
  4. 4Never share a referral link on the user's behalf without consent.
  5. 5Describe the reward accurately.
